Designers making a splash

Some beautiful design is currently on display at the graduation show of Central’s Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design students.

Located at Gallery Central on Aberdeen Street, the KO 2013 exhibition showcases the outstanding work students have produced during their training and offers a window into the latest emerging talent in Perth’s graphic design industry.

To help prepare them for the workforce, students participate in live briefs throughout the year which give them valuable knowledge and experience.

For the fifth year running, Central participated in the ISTD (International Society of Typographical Designers) Student Assessment scheme.  This marks Central’s commitment and dedication to typography principles and skills within the Advanced Diploma level.

Students worked with a variety of clients including:

Bicycling Western Australia – the focus of this project was to rebrand the Live Lighter Cyclo Sportif series of events with a fresh, energised new look plus provide a comprehensive marketing and advertising strategy.

Cancer Wellness Centre – presented with an existing identity, students redesigned the logo and developed branding applications.

WA Medical Students’ Society – designed outstanding print and online marketing material for two major fundraising events.

Chevron – the quarantine team at Chevron commissioned students to create and design a board game.

Central Music Business students – collaboration between graphic design and music business management saw students brand and create promotional material for a live music event.

First Fruit Records – students designed a lenticular cover and associated packaging for the compilation CD, Rhythms of Life.

The experience gained by being involved in these live briefs maximises the competitiveness of graduates in the market and allows them to better respond to the needs of industry and employers.

Throughout 2013, our students have enjoyed the generous support of industry partners: Australian Graphic Design Association (AGDA), BJ Ball Papers and OnWilliam.
